Hi All,
The attachment and the report below are the same. See you on Tuesday!
Folk Project Archives Committee Report
June 2019
Our Rutgers Collection
Before we can begin collecting in earnest from our members, we need a temporary location to house and sort materials prior to adding them to our existing collection in Rutgers Special Collections.
So far, no one in the FP has volunteered more than a corner of space (thank you for the corner, Bobbie Rosengarten). I've reached out to Rutgers to inquire about using their facilities to gather and sort materials. This option brings us into contact with Rutgers' collection policies and procedures.
There's a new Associate Director of Special Collections who is my new connection for this project. I've spent the past month in email conversation, bringing her up to speed about the FP and answering her questions and concerns regarding their collection policies. If all goes well and I get a go-ahead from her, we'll be able to move forward on the collecting and donating process.
Photo Albums
I'm currently storing nine photo albums from the 1980s and early 1990s, many in poor condition due to deteriorating Polaroid photos and so-called "magnetic" albums. I've consulted with a digitization expert at the Monmouth County Archives about digitizing the photos, which will probably need to be done professionally. Estimates forthcoming.
Once digitized, the images can be stored in the cloud, where they will be accessible to everyone. Of course, they'd also be stored on hard-drives etc. in case of cloud failure.
