Subject: Belated Treasurer's Report
Greetings, projectiles -
For those who are interested in this stuff, I've gotten the last of the ASCAP/BMI paperwork so the attached is a pretty good read-out of how we did in 2017. I say "pretty good," because I know from experience that expenses (and income) from this year will continue to drift in over the weeks ahead. Just yesterday, for example, we were notified of some additional Virtual Admissions income from a Minstrel concert held last October.
Special Concerts brought in the lion's share of the profit last year, followed by Minstrel and (surprisingly) by FP General. Roughly $2,500 of that was the ACMA grant, but we also collected a lot of money in dues. Figuring out why is something I would leave as an exercise for the reader. The data is there for folks to play with.
If anyone does have 2017 expenses they haven't reported, please get them to me ASAP. If they are not reported by January 15, I will force you to KNEEL before the Mighty Board and beg its indulgence (Mwa hahaha). Well, probably not. But help us out, eh? Let's put 2017 to bed.
As I will continue to do in the next year, I urge people to log in to Quick Books for an up close and personal view of things. And even though it's only January, I'm looking for folks who might want to be Treasurer in 2019. Many thanks to Mr. Agranoff for taking on the mantle last year, but I'm now looking at two years as Treasurer, a third year as bookkeeper, and a fourth as Treasurer again. That's enough, at least for now.
There's a lot I like about the job, but it's a lot of work and I'm ready to move on.
Regards,
Chris

Subject: Treasurer Non-Report
Greetings, folks -
Technically, Mike is the Treasurer until tomorrow, so this is still a bookkeeper's report.
My experience tells me that most people are not that interested in the financials, so while they may look at one report they're unlikely to look at more than one a month. And when the meeting date falls so close to the 1st, it's hard to get everything processed for the prior month.
It means reconciling the Wells Fargo accounts against the month-end statements, sweeping in transactions from PayPal and if it's the end of a quarter, processing the ASCAP and BMI statements and updating the Vanguard balances. So rather than try to rush through it, I intend to send the reports as soon as they're ready, even if that happens after the meeting. And that will be the case in January 2018. You'll get to review the December 31 reports within a week or so, but not before Tuesday.
Remember that if anyone is hot to see things earlier, you can always be issued a QuickBooks user ID. That gives the additional advantage of letting you drill down into the details.
See you Tuesday, and happy new year to all!
Regards,
Chris
