Archives Committee Annual Report 2019

Documenting our Place in NJ History

What's hiding out in YOUR attic? The Archives Committee wants your Folk Project stuff!

Bobbie and I are storing materials in our homes until such time as we can donate to Rutgers University Special Collections, which only allows bulk acquisitions. What we need is donations, from YOU! As you're downsizing, moving, or Marie Kondo-ing, please consider donating any of the following examples:

• Board minutes prior to 2006 (subsequent minutes are on our wiki)

• Newsletters

• Financial papers

• Venue and event documents

• Bylaws : Documents and emails relevant to the 2016 - 2017 changes

• Written history (history by Laurie Riley, Mike A., et al, is already in the collection)

• Printed emails related to policy and event development. Example: the Friday concert series name changes

• Photographs

• News articles

• Posters

The committee is currently creating a folder list of existing items in the RU collection, which mainly covers the time period between 1979 and 2005. The folder list will help us to identify missing materials and approach members who may be able to fill in gaps.

Here is the link to our Rutgers collection: https://rutgers.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/fulldisplay?vid=01RUT_INST:01RUT&docid=alma991002069989704646 To see the actual collection, call Special Collections and make an appointment to visit their New Brunswick location inside Alexander Library.

Earlier this year, I consulted with the archivist at Monmouth County Archives about the best way to preserve our deteriorating photo albums from the 1980s and 1990s. Once they're digitized, the images can be stored in the cloud.

Thank you for your help with this long-term process. Got questions? Give us a holler.
