Swingin’ Tern

The Swingin' Tern Committee Report for June 5:

We lost a special person and contra dancer, Anne Marie Gabrielle, when on May 25 she passed away from brain cancer. Dancers who hadn’t yet learned

her name but recognized her by sight were saddened to lose a kind, intelligent and funny woman, and of course her long-time dance friends feel it deeply.

On the positive side, we’ve had three good dances since the last FP board meeting. We had positive cash flow of $314, not quite enough to cover the rent.

Our best dance was May 5. It featured a Folk Project all-star band, and the excellent Mark Widmer was our caller. In contrast, on May 19 we had negative cash flow of $80; big dances in New York and Pennsylvania drew away many good dancers.

Our committee is discussing promotion of our summer dances. While the heat discourages some people, we will see some of our summer friends because Bethlehem’s dance goes on hiatus and New York’s is held less frequently.
