The Swingin Tern Committee Report for July 1:
On June 7 Swingin' Tern hosted our own Don Flaherty calling to
Fingerplay, and on June 21 Swingin' Tern hosted Brian Hamshar calling to
Utopian Parkway.
On June 27 scheduled was Donna Hunt calling to Perpetual e-Motion, but
one of Pe-M's two members was first delayed by Friday northeast corridor
traffic and then suffered a car breakdown. So Donna asked if anyone had
brought along a fiddle. Up popped Diane Perry, who--because she had
missed out on a car-pooling opportunity--had driven herself and had her
violin in the car. As we learned through the evening, Diane is a jazz
aficionado. Later we also found out that she was classically trained at
Julliard. Together John and Diane wowed the house and played until 11:30
to make up for the delayed start.
Of the many special dances from here to year end, this first one wound
up entertaining us immensely, particularly considering the challenges.
Financially there was a loss of about $175 for the month. This was in
part because over twenty ST dancers supported the June 7 attempt to set
the record for longest ever contra line in Rutland, Vermont.
