On March 5, Swingin' Tern celebrated Bob Isaacs' 60th birthday. Bob sponsored the dance, paying all expenses. The dance was free, and Bob encouraged people to make donations in support of Swingin' Tern. He lured Nor'Easter to play at this double (afternoon/evening) dance and had many of his protégés call dances, all of which were written by him. People came from many states to help Bob celebrate his birthday, and it was a spectacular performance by the band and the callers. The dancers were delighted.
On March 19, Sue Gola (one of Bob's protégées) called to Blue Jersey. Sue and Blue Jersey are favorites at all the area dances, including Swingin' Tern.
Because of the contributions on Bob's birthday, these dances were financially successful. We came out ahead $1319, not counting any allocated overhead.
Further, there were several generous contributions in memory of Joel Remde. I don't yet have the final figures, but the total is approximately $2000. There was a particularly generous anonymous contribution of $1800, for which we are very appreciative.
In May and June, Swingin' Tern will host a double dance each month with outstanding bands and callers.
