Newsletter Committee Report 2019-05
Things are proceeding as usual with the invaluable help of Kathi Caccavale, Pat Brangs, Nancy Kelner, Liz Pagan, Bill Henderson, and Gary Pratt.
I got a request from one of the readers of the Newsletter to make it easier to identify those events in the Gigs and Calendar sections that were nearby, perhaps by organizing the events by county or town or "out of state." This raises several questions. First, should the newsletter even list events that are far away? Typically, these events come from members who are on tour and want to let the rest of the FP membership know where they will be performing and encourage them to drop by if they are in the neighborhood. Most of these events are listed in the Gigs section, although some are shown in the Calendar as well. If we didn't list them, the remaining events would all be local and easier to read through.
Second, while I think that organizing the listings by county or town would be something of an overkill, perhaps it would be useful to mark those events that are "far away" with some kind of flag or icon, so that people only looking for local events could skip over them. If so, how far away is "far away"? Currently, I consider northern NJ and just across the borders into NY and PA to be local, but is Philadelphia too far?
On a separate matter, with the change in the name of the Minstrel to Troubadour, we should probably change the name of the Dance page in the newsletter for the same reasons. It is currently called "Feets don't fail me now!" I haven't decided on a new name yet.
Sincerely,
George Otto
