Subject: Ad Hoc Committee on Electronic Communications
All - I wanted everyone to know where I landed re the composition of the Ad Hoc Committee.
Chris said he would participate and noted that the previous committee that worked on the email policy was chaired by Robin Schaffer, with Lori, Mark and Chris also participating. (I think he may have said that Mike Agranoff also participated). Since the exercise will involve an update/unfinished business from the previous committee’s work, I thought it would be a good idea to largely reconstitute the committee. So I asked Robin to chair it again and she agreed. Lori also asked to participate, which I think makes sense since this is her area of responsibility. I also asked Paul, given the importance of email blasts to his committee, and he accepted. Finally, to provide a fresh perspective, I also asked Jean Scully to participate and she agreed.
I decided not to go for a broad participation approach that would include the players directly involved in the matter that promoted this review (other than Lori, but as noted above, she should be involved because of her role as our email gatekeeper). I trust that everyone will work cooperatively in good faith together to take an analytical, data-driven dive into the following question:
Should The Folk Project use email blasts across multiple venue email lists for purposes of cross-pollination marketing and, if so, when and how should this practice be employed?
The committee’s goal should be to report out findings and recommendations to the Board by the August meeting, if at all possible.
Please remember that the point of this endeavor is to achieve consensus. As I see it, that can only work if we check any personal baggage about past perceived wrongs, etc. at the door and focus squarely on what is in the best interests of The Folk Project.
Please let me know anyone has any objections to or concerns about any of the above. Otherwise, let me again thank each of you for your time and attention to this important matter. You are all integral parts of making our organization a safe space for shared humanity in an increasingly brutish world.
Best regards,
Steve
