Subject: August Event Hosting Report
Dear Boarderlines:
Just back from Falcon Ridge, ready (not really....) to switch from strumming to typing.
July was a terrific month for EH.
Our July 4 picnic in Lewis Morris Park was, I'd like to believe, a rip-roaring success. The site, a new one for the Project, was well suited to our needs, we had plenty of space for cooking, serving, schmoozing, and jamming, and that's exactly what we did. Chris Riemer counted 75 attendees at one point during the mid-afternoon, so my very rough estimate would be that about 90 people attended in total
My inclination is to book the site again for next year, unless there were significant problems that I'm not aware of. (There was an issue with access for handicapped attendees, but that was my fault for not making the access route known - that should not be a problem in the future). If there were problems with the site that I'm not aware of, please tell me privately.
I'm especially gratified by the number of Projectiles who volunteered, and how hard and well they worked. Particular thanks go to Mike Del Vecchio and Diane Polledri for manning (personing?) the grill on a hot day; Lori Falco for setting up the food service; Paul Fisher and Chris Riemer for much-needed emotional and logistical support; and Eitan Grunwald for tearing down when I was completely out of steam.
Total expenses for the picnic were $485.10. This includes $135 for the park rental and $25 for the alcohol permit. This may look like lot of money, but for the number of Projectiles who seemed to have a very good time, the quality of the food that we provided, and given that it was our first picnic in recent memory where we used a public facility, the cost seems reasonable.
Also, the July Evening of Music, hosted for the first time by Diane Polledri in her truly beautiful home, was something special. About 35 people attended. The music was non-stop, the vibe was warm and welcoming, and the cakes that Diane baked for the occasion were eye-popping. It's great to add Diane to our roster of hosts.
The August Evening of Music, on August 10, will be an afternoon and evening event, hosted by Mike Agranoff at the Oak Hills Asssociation Pool and Recreation complex. And, we're looking forward to the beach/music party to be hosted by Eddie Roffman and Bzrbra Goldenberg on August 17.
Submitted in the spirit of the Project,
Jay Wilensky, Event Hosting chair
