Publicity Report

7/3/11 – Revised 7/5/11

From Webmaster John Lamb:

Two major new features were added to the website this month. The first is the Festival section at http://festival.folkproject.org and the other is the photo sharing page http://photos.folkproject.org. The photos page could be used, for example, as a place to put images requested for articles in print media when those images are too large or too numerous to email. It could also be used as a place for those who have taken photos of Folk Project activities over the years to put them so that they may be of use on the website or to the publicity committee. I have sent out instructions on how to upload images but, if you did not receive them or need another copy, please email me at webmaster@folkproject.org. Many thanks to Allan Kugel and Lori Falco for their assistance. The next project will be handling online Festival registrations, for which Lori is taking the lead. As always, we welcome comments, suggestions and questions.

From Publicity Chairman Nancy Kelner:

Thanks to the members of the publicity committee for their work over the past month. Lots of emailing and posting going on!

We have had some difficulty getting our events posted properly on the Arts Council of the Morris Area website calendar. Seems they use a volunteer. I email them when see errors and they are kind enough to correct them. They’re very good to us.

Emailed Morris County Tourism Board and asked them to correct the contact phone number for Swingin’ Tern in our listing; they took care of it. They are also very good to us.

Continued our listing on the NJ Tourism site (and booklet, hopefully) for Oct 2011-Mar 2012. We’ll see how it comes out. They have been very helpful when I have had questions about how to navigate their website.

The Alternative Press, an Internet-only publication, posts our press releases immediately after we send them. The editor there, Mike Shapiro, has been very kind to us.

Emailed information about the upcoming October 28th Frank Vignola Minstrel concert to the “jazz niche” folks a few days ago. It may seem early, but the NJ Jazz Society publishes a newsletter and this will give them plenty of time to print something about the concert.

The biggest new to report is that Drew Scarantino, our contact at NJ Monthly magazine, is writing an article about the Folk Project for the August issue! Thanks to Ed Roffman and Pat Brangs who were interviewed by her and to Andy Koenig, Alice Weimer and Doug Heacock who supplied photos. I especially appreciate everyone’s help since Drew’s deadline was tight. Thanks also to Cathy Ballard, former publicity committee member, who planted the idea in Drew’s head in the first place.

Addendum: Tony Mottola, editor of the NJ Jazz Society’s newsletter, did a very nice two-page story with photos of the Za Zu Zaz concert in their July/August issue. I forwarded Tony’s email with article attached to the full board.

I encourage any Board members without specific Folk Project tasks to contact me to help with publicity. Taking on even one publicity outlet would be appreciated.
