ummer doldrums have set in. Lotta folks on vacation, including me. We had a relatively slow August at the Minstrel. Average attendance was only 71.0 paid for regular shows and 64.8 when we added in the Birthday Show and Open Stage. The Open Stage was tied for the 3rd lowest paid attendance on record with 15 (including performers). The Birthday Show did nicely, though with 96 paid and 20 performing groups. Financial data not available. I will report on that at the meeting.
MUF has agreed to reduce our rent increase. We will be paying $250/show instead of our current $225. That is reduced from the $295 they had originally asked.
The volunteer database is still going through some teething problems, and the jury is still out as to whether we will continue to use it or go back to the Yahoo group. More on that from the Minstrel Volunteers committee in their report.
The proposed Minstrel/Special concert with Richard Shindell is off. Richard will be performing this winter with Lucy Kaplansky at Sanctuary Concerts, too close to us to do in the same season. I've asked that we be kept in mind on his next tour. And while this is really Special Concerts' domain, I'll report that we're trying to put together a house concert with Naomi Sunshine and Grover Kemble in November after the big hit they made opening for Jack Williams in July.
New bookings concluded in August are all openers:
· Sept. 21: Bob Andrews, opening for Christine DeLeon, replacing Luke Liddy who had to cancel. Bob was introduced to us at the Spring Festival as one of the "threebies".
· Oct. 19: Rachel Marie (Schachter) opening for Amy Regan. Rachel is one of the new crop of FP youngsters who made a hit at the Birthday Show.
· Nov. 2: Dave Kleiner opening for the Berrymans.
· Jan. 4: The Wag, opening for The Kennedys. a band of intelligent rockers from South Jersey
There's a really strong schedule for September, including Bill Staines this Friday and April Verch on the 28th.
