Swingin' Tern
We've had three successful dances since the last board meeting. Cash
flow was positive by $678 after all expenses.
December 15 was our holiday dance, featuring Donna Hunt and Last Exit.
There were several competing dances, but we broke even, no doubt due to
the popularity of the caller, the band and the after-dance holiday party
at Doug and Brian's.
On New Year's Eve, 102 dancers enjoyed Janine Smith calling to The
Brooklyn Swing Ensemble. I wasn't there, but this past Saturday a dozen
people told me how much they'd enjoyed the performers and decorations.
Our positive cash flow of over $250 was the best in almost a year.
This past Saturday we had our anniversary dance. Bob Isaacs organized a
team of local callers and Blue Jersey was the band. It was also when we
recognized our great team of volunteers. There are too many to mention
them all here, but I want to highlight Barbara Hall, who not only
volunteers regularly but has volunteered several times when she was
unable to dance. How could you ask for more?
In fact, there was more. We had many students and new dancers: total
attendance was 90. It was a financial hit partly because of good
attendance and particularly because Connie Crawford sponsored this dance
by paying for the band; it was her tenth anniversary of dancing. For
half of those ten years she led our dance, and in an interesting
coincidence, we had decided to surprise Connie with a certificate of
appreciation and lifetime pass. We fervently hope to see her more often
at future dances.
