From Webmaster John Lamb:
The website required fairly minimal effort this month, which is a good thing because the webmaster's time was occupied by a large number of rehearsals and performances. We got out the word when the Dugan's Hooligans concert had to be cancelled due to lack of power at MUUF. We supported the Festival when the registration deadline was extended. Lori has been working on the Constant Contact mailing lists and Allan is thinking over some enhancements to the database interface that were suggested by Mike. The centralized sign-up page for information about our various venues is on hold until the Minstrelgram is integrated into Constant Contact. As always, thanks to the web team and we welcome suggestions, comments and questions sent to webmaster@folkproject.org.
From Publicity Chairman Nancy Kelner:
Things are percolating along. Michael Mitsch has offered to handle performer photos starting in mid-October and will work with Alice Weimer to learn what to do.
A new contact phone for Swingin’ Tern was put into use; it is still Gloria Friedman’s phone, just another phone number.
Jim King wrote a very nice article about the Folk Project for NJ Skylands Visitor magazine at their invitation. In the online version, there was a link to the Festival page and the Minstrel page. I have copies of the magazine and will bring some to the board meeting and to the Minstrel.
The Minstrel was featured in the “Don’t Miss” section of the September Parent Guide News. Saw it on line; am trying to get a copy of the magazine. This was their idea.
Received an email from Heidi Olsen, a DJ at Brookdale Public Radio, who leads the beginners jam session at BOTMA (Bluegrass and Old Time Music Assoc.). It was a long email put together by Linda Salmons and listed many, many music, dance and festival events (mostly in the central and south Jersey area). Swingin’ Tern and the Fall Festival were listed. Heidi added, “And just so you know, Linda has about 800 people on her email list, and I have another 160. So your Folk Project events are getting some good publicity!”
Our contact at NJ Division of Travel and Tourism posted Swingin’ Tern for us on their website for Oct. 2011 through March 2012. The Minstrel is already listed.
Met the general manager/editor of the Daily Record at the street festival in Morristown on Sunday, Oct. 2. He said to send him FP info and he’ll “give us as much ink as he can.” His name is James Flachsenhaar. (Delightful name; translates roughly to Golden Hair. For the record, he’s got black hair.)
