Greetings, projectiles –
In 2010, I was the Folk Project Secretary and felt we should have some kind of online Knowledge Base. That is, we should have a shared space where we could publish minutes, save important paperwork, keep logo files, publish our by-laws and so forth. Until then, everything was scattered across many individual hard drives. Things were getting lost. I felt we needed a wiki. (For those who care, a wiki is a web-based content management system that can be edited by non-technical people. It comes from the Hawaiian wiki-wiki, which means fast.) The Back Office was born.
Over the last 11 years, it’s been a good platform for us. However, Google has announced that it’s replacing “Classic Google Sites” with “New Google Sites.” The new version is simpler, having fewer page templates and layout options. But it’s also more mobile friendly. We’ll be losing some functionality, but nothing important.
I’ve been working with Jeff to migrate us to the new version, and we should wrap it up before the end of the month. I believe the changes will be transparent (as they say) to virtually everyone. So you can consider this email as primarily an FYI. No action required.
