Publicity Report

January 31, 2011

(Revised February 8, 2011)

From John Lamb, Webmaster:

We hope to have a major update to the website by mid-February. Anyone who is interested can get a preview at http://www.project21.us

Please let John Lamb know if you spot any typos or factual errors. Suggestions for changes in design or layout are welcome as well, but will be saved for future consideration rather than addressed in this update. Many thanks to Cathy Thomas and Allan Kugel for all the work they have put into this.

From Nancy Kelner, Publicity Chairman:

The publicity committee has grown since the last board meeting. Kevin Redden, Cathy Ballard and Carolyn Messina have volunteered to help.

The meeting of the Jersey Arts Marketers, originally scheduled for Feb. 1st, was changed to Feb. 18th. Will let you know what was discussed at the March FP board meeting.

We were invited to submit a Valentines event to Jersey Arts for their Valentines Guide. We submitted the Feb. 11 Minstrel – Valentines Show and we were not only chosen, it’s the first event listed! To see it, go to www.jerseyarts.com/Valentine

Have been working with NJ Monthly magazine to find out why we’re not in their print issue any more. Turns out they need the information much sooner than they had originally told us (3-4 months in advance, not 2-3 months). I learned from the events editor that she checked our website on her own and put the March 4th Minstrel concert -Bucky Pizzarelli into the March print issue. When I get my copy, I’ll check and let you know if it‘s there!

We had submitted boilerplate information on Minstrel and Swingin’ Tern to the NJ Travel website and we’re listed. Go to www.visitnj.org – Click on Events, then click on Festivals&Events and search for Minstrel or Swingin’ Tern by choosing Alpha and Recurring.

MUF asked for a link to their website from the Folk Project website. We have provided a link from the Minstrel opening page.

There’s a publication called The Collection, sponsored by the Summit area Chamber of Commerce, which is mailed all homes, apartments and businesses in Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, Millburn and Short Hills and demographically selected single-family homes in Mountainside, Chatham, Springfield, Gillette, Stirling and Millington. Turns out I know the editor, Diane Gallo, from when I worked for the Summit Board of Education and she was a board member. If we send her our information in plenty of time, she said she’ll try to get at least some of it into the publication.

Received an email from Jim Bohen, who used to work for the Daily Record. He and some colleagues are starting up an arts and lifestyle website called Morrisbeats. He asked for monthly information from us and indicated they may be willing to do interviews, too. Website is not active yet. www.morrisbeats.com

Finally spoke to someone with a pulse who works with Overlook View Magazine. I had been using the correct email address, but the proper person wasn’t getting my emails. She gave me her direct email, and I sent her a boilerplate paragraph about Folk Project/Minstrel/Swingin’ Tern, plus the Minstrel schedule for March and April for their next issue.
