PUBLICITY COMMITTEE REPORT

Webmaster Report – John Lamb

February has been a busy month. In addition to continued support for the Minstrel tally sheet, we added pages for two House Concerts, updated the pages that provide links to nearby venues for concerts and dances, fixed a few typos (Song Swamps, anyone?) and consulted with Lori Falco on the issue of technology upgrades (replacing the Minstrel laptop and improving Internet service at MUUF). We continue to evaluate the feasibility of implementing changes to the site that Mike Agranoff has requested and we will provide target dates for implementation of those changes that we can support.

Some interesting (at least to me) statistics: On a typical day, our site answers over 1500 page requests, providing over 240 MB of information to our users. The busiest day of the week is Friday, when we average over 1800 page requests. The least busy day is Wednesday, when we average slightly over 1000. The busiest hour of the day is noon to 1 PM, when we get just under 100 page requests on a typical day. The least busy hour is 2 AM to 3 AM when we get about 34. While some of this traffic is due to our own internal processes or to search engines automatically indexing the site, we seem to be reaching on the order of a few hundred end users on any given day.

As always, thanks to my team members Allan Kugel and Lori Falco for a job well done. Please send any questions, comments and suggestions to webmaster@folkproject.org.

Chairman Report – Nancy Kelner

The publicity committee worked hard this past month to get the word out. The last-minute Anne Hills/Michael Smith house concert was taken in stride and everyone covered their publicity outlets by email or posting.

The Valentines Extravaganza was listed on NJ Skylands visitor magazine website. Was pleased to see this, since they hadn’t been listing us lately. It was also on the Morris County Tourism Bureau website as a special Valentines Day event.

Jennifer Nelson of the Daily Record did an article about the Valentines Extravaganza. Link = www.dailyrecord.com/article/20130207/njent/302070008/angst-jealousy-music-humor.

Vicinity Magazine Feb 2013 issue listed all the February Minstrel concerts and they were properly listed on Fridays.

The Collection Winter 2013 issue listed 3 February Minstrel concerts and 1 February Swingin’ Tern dance as ongoing events. Also, all the March Minstrels and all the March Swingin’ Terns were listed as ongoing events.

Added back Morrisbeats to our outlet list; thought they had gone out of business. Found a very nice article on their website about Jean Rohe; she mentions the Folk Project many times. Link = http://www.morrisbeats.com/article/-span-class-read_more-Read-nbsp-more-nbsp-gt-span-?a=322&t=2

Attended a Barry Mitterhoff concert at the Fanwood Library on Feb. 27. Got permission to set out some Minstrel flyers on the front desk. Was thrilled when library director Danny Weiss, in his introductory remarks, showed a Minstrel flyer to the audience and mentioned the Folk Project and the Minstrel and the fact that Silk City would be appearing there on March 22. BTW, there were many FP members there.

Emailed Acoustic Live and asked them to change Minstrel admission to $8. They said they would and I have added them to our outlet list.
