Subject: May Event Hosting report
I’m very happy to report that Event Hosting is alive and well, and living not just in New Jersey, but in Arizona, New York, and Massachusetts as well.
As you know, our Evenings of Music have been replaced by the Monday evening Stayaway song circle on Zoom. The circles have been (he says, modestly), a huge success. They have been attended by an average of fifteen to twenty people, who seem to understand and accept the limitations of Zoom and the quirks and technical incompetence of the moderator, and also appear to be willing to wait and to listen to other people’s music. I’m also happy to say that we have been visited or joined by a few working professionals; I’m working on striking the correct balance between giving the pros their due and ensuring that the circles are participatory events.
The circles in fact seem so successful (and satisfying for me) that I’d like for us to consider continuing them after the world re-starts.
I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Paul and Mark for coming up with and supporting the concept. And I would be criminal if I didn’t thank Todd for graciously bailing me out every time I yell “HALP!”
Submitted in the spirit of the Project,
Jay Wilensky, Event Hosting chair.
