HSNOI

We are still looking for new volunteers to take the Cablevision training and help produce the show. We taped two good shows in Sept:

576) Frank Fotusky - plays Acoustic Blues in the style reminiscent of the great East Coast "Piedmont" players such as Rev. Gary Davis, Blind Boy Fuller, John Jackson, Blind Willie McTell to name a few. A majority of his material is culled from the '20's, '30's and '40's; his original compositions are rooted in this era and still carry a contemporary feel. East coast or "Piedmont Blues” consists of sophisticated syncopation with fingerpicked guitar. The result is a sound that resembles that of the ragtime piano. http://frankfotusky.tripod.com

577) Kendy Gable Band – Growing up in the farm fields and mountains of Pennsylvania, Kendy now calls the streets of Brooklyn home. She has toured in Australia, Iceland & Canada and plays monthly in New York City. http://kendygable.bandcamp.com

Upcoming:

578) 10/15/13 Steve Kunzman - is always searching for truth: truth in study of world religions, truth in his work as a lawyer, truth in songwriting. In his new CD, Back Home, Steve explores his truth through the essence of home as restorative power, as light in the distance & light in the heart, through his music. Steve’s music presents deep, soul-stirring Americana with moods ranging from rollicking to whisper-soft and twang to mist-dripping melodies. Steve lives in New Jersey and has traveled the world with guitar in hand. www.SteveKunzman.com

579) 10/15/13 Hiroya Tsukamoto & Pete Kennedy (of The Kennedys) - composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan; at 13 took up banjo, guitar shortly after. At Osaka University was introduced to South American Nueva Cancion; in 2000, rec’d scholarship to Berklee College of Music; recipient of the Professional Music Achievement Award; http://www.hiroyatsukamoto.com

580) 11/7/13 6:45 Queen Esther - award-winning vocalist, songwriter, librettist, playwright, actor and recording artist. “Big Al” Gilhausen introduced her to the legendary Hubert Sumlin. Because of his influence, she lost herself in the blues and found her way back to her country gospel roots. This, along with a childhood of free-form radio, a steady diet of Hee-Haw, The Lawrence Welk Show and Soul Train – and the overwhelming presence of the rural sanctified black church with sacred steel – solidified her Black Americana sound. www.queen-esther.com

581) 11/7/13 8:00 Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards - folk duo from Massachusetts who sing songs which resonate with the lover of Americana and old country music, commanding familiar traditional melodies and poignant, introspective lyrics, and backing them with delicate arrangements on ukulele, clarinet, guitar and banjo www.markmandeville.com

1/2/14 - tenative Mark Brine
