YIKES!
Just reread my report and realized FOLK PROJECT GIANT BILL HENDERSON was not listed on the Drive-in Crew roster. Sorry for that unforgivable oversight.

August 2020 Special Concerts Report to Board
July Streaming:
In July, The Acoustic Stayaway presented streaming concerts by David Jacobs-Strain, John McCutcheon, Claudia Schmidt, The Kennedys, Jay Ungar & Molly Mason, Alasdair Fraser, David Wilcox, Ordinary Elephant, and Tim Easton.
“Live” Streaming Attendance in July totaled about 1,500 viewers. Some concerts remain online on the Project’s site and on the artists’ sites. One broadcast with 300 live viewers had over 1,200 viewers total the following week, but we do not follow up with viewership on concerts that remain on line. We hope continued viewership of Stayaway concerts adds revenue for our artists.
Advertising:
Our sponsorship spots on WNYC appear to have increased our viewership. Plus they are fun to hear. Thanks to the anonymous donors.
JD Special Concert:
The Jeff Daniels Special Concert was held on a Wednesday, July 22, 2020. It was not held on a Tuesday or Friday because it was a pay model. We had 126 viewers. The Project received $351.70, 20% of the gate. Advertising was limited to ten days before the event per the contract.
The Pratt Factor:
Two months ago Gary Pratt and Deborah Graham successfully took over concert hosting duties.
Last month Gary took over the management and performer liaison duties associated with hosting.
This week Gary took over the management and performer liaison duties associated with technical requirements: platform choices, donation links, performer difficulties and the like
Putting Gary in the Stayaway process at a much earlier stage has led to big and immediate improvements in my workload and in managing the entire program.
Platform Possibilities:
Because of improvements in streaming concert tech and performer competence and audience education, the Special Concerts Committee is exploring developing one Folk Project platform for all Stayaway concerts. The consistent platform would be an advantage to our viewers.
Live Drive-in:
The Safety First Drive-in Concert featuring Toby Walker and Vance Gilbert was a great show and a success. John Mahon and Mike DelVecchio made the sound exceptional. Thanks to the crew, Todd Dennison, Annie Donohue, Steve Humphries, Paul Fisher, and The Borough of Madison, for doing a superlative job.
The initial plan for three concerts proved over-ambitious. It was pared down to one concert Saturday evening, which sold out. Estimates vary, but it appears 1/3 to 1/2 of attendees were from the Folk Project community.
Madison Borough would like to do another concert in September. The Safety-First Drive-in Subcommittee is discussing the costs vs. benefits vs. risks.
The Most Important Drive-in Point:
Guests and volunteers were compliant with the safety standards outlined in the committee’s approach - outdoors, distanced, private safety zones, masks required outside private safety zones.
Additional Programming:
The Troubadour intends to join the on-line Stayaway program schedule in October. It will be streamed on a pay-admission basis, no live audience, and held hopefully at MUFF.
The pay-admission model was used for July’s Jeff Daniels concert and will be used for September’s upcoming Tom Paxton & The DonJuans concert These two concerts were scheduled on Wednesdays to differentiate them from the Stayaway’s free-admission model on Tuesdays and Fridays. The Troubadour will be streamed on Saturday’s for the same reason.
Thanks to the Stayaway Team:
Robin, Todd, Gary, Deborah, Jean, Kathi, John, Bob, Joe, Jay and Dave.
Yours truly,
Mark Schaffer
