Publicity Committee report for April 2011
From Webmaster John Lamb:
The long-promised update has been made to the Folk Project website. We will continue to make minor changes here and there that we hope will result in improvements. Please try out the new site and send any comments, suggestions or bug reports to webmaster@folkproject.org. I would like to thank everyone who helped make the new site possible, particularly Cathy and Rick Thomas and Allan Kugel. In other news, Lori Falco has joined the team. She put together the Festival portion of the previous site and I have asked her to start recreating it for the new site. She is experienced with both html and databases and I am very happy to have her join us.
From Publicity Chairman Nancy Kelner:
The publicity committee steamrolled its way through March, crushing all who would stand in our way. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself.) All the members took care of their assigned tasks, and the larger job got done. Debby Edelman, long-time committee member, will soon retire and I am working on finding someone to take on her duties. We thank her for her many years of service. Kevin Redden reports that unfortunately, he is unable to help at this time because of work responsibilities. Cheryl Cronk, whom I met at EOM2 in March, has joined the committee.
The March 18th Minstrel (Lissa Schneckenburger) was listed in the Jersey Arts St. Patrick’s Day events email and we didn’t even ask to be listed! I emailed Jersey Arts to say thanks.
Both Minstrel and Swingin’ Tern are listed on the NJ Travel website for April thru September as boilerplate listings. I received courteous assistance with the listings from their people.
NJ Monthly printed two April Minstrel concerts but got the price wrong. (Darn! So close, yet so far.) I mentioned the mistake in my thank-you email to our contact there. NJ Monthly also publishes a magazine called Park Place and the March 4th Bucky Pizzarelli concert was listed in the latest issue, even though we didn’t ask for it.
Overlook View magazine printed the Minstrel concerts for March 18 and 25 and got the information right (finally). I emailed our contact there to say thank you.
The Alternate Press’s website calendar went crazy recently – April date look-ups for Minstrel and Swingin’ Tern found them on the day after the actual event but showing the correct date. I emailed the editor to let him know; apparently, they are having problems with their calendar. Hopefully this will be corrected soon. We will continue sending press releases to this outlet, which they have been posting.
The Dance Gypsy website had both a spring and fall FP festival listed. We can now modify the postings ourselves, so the spring festival is shown as cancelled.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Kelner
