Subject: Festival Committee Report
We had a total of 182 people attend the Spring 2010 Festival, including performers and staff. There were a large number of commuters this time: 12 full weekend passes, 30 Saturday only passes and 1 Sunday only pass. We had 15 people try our new dance only ticket, 13 of whom were at the festival for the first time. Financially, the Festival lost about $300. This does not include the Agranoff endowment, which is about $1000, so we could say that we broke even. The report on QuickBooks, which currently shows a $300 profit, is not complete yet as we expect a few more bills to come in.
On a scale of 1-6, 51% of respondents rated the Festival a 6; 39% rated it a 5 and only 10% gave it a 4 or less. A lot of people told me that they had enjoyed the Festival and I think the performers were especially good at joining in with us for jamming and general "hanging out".
With 15 dance tickets sold, we are definitely considering selling the dance only ticket for Fall. However, we have to consider our decision carefully since an increased number of commuters makes parking more difficult and the parking situation is already less than ideal.
Fall 2010 will be our last Festival at Star Lake. The date is Oct 8-10 (Columbus Day weekend) and the featured performers are Anne Hills, Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers and Aca-Perco. Folk Project performers are the Mina Family and Friends, Joe Petraitis and Jean Scully.
The future of Festival beyond fall is very unclear. We need to find a new chair - no one has stepped forward to date. And we need to find a new site. I have been collecting suggestions when people offer them and gathering some information, but we really need someone to become the champion of the next era for festival.
