All,
A report for March 4, 2014
Minstrel sound system:
Nothing major to report this month. Little odds and ends still need and have receieved some attention, but the system functions as intended.
Sound at the door
We recently purchased a pair of Lithium-Ion rechargeable 9V batteries and a charger, grand total $20. These new-technology rechargeables should have life near that of an alkaline battery. The soundies will change the microphone battery at the beginning of each show, recharging the other during each show.
One-day Nerfa
The One-Day Nerfa event from the sound and tech side went as planned. We had a good crew working Friday night to set up as much as possible. By Saturday all was in place. Excecution was smooth and trouble free. The atmosphere was terrific. The performers loved their gift of a dvd of their performance, and many are on youtube as we speak. Our young videologist Kevin Phalon did an excellent job.
Special thanks to all involved. While many will be thanked elsehwere, the sound squad included John Mahon, Bob Safranek, Cathy McMahon, Joanne Cronin, Fil Wisneski, Jeff Saxton and Frank Del Vecchio later in the day. Special thanks to John Mahon who brought and manned his own sound system for the griddle room events, and to Joanne Cronin who staffed the cafeteria p.a. and CD player.
While our sound-only report is grateful to our team, we want to thank also Pam Robinson and Pat Brangs for their big picture planning and meticulous moderating of the tiniest details. They did everything frommaking sure all of the soundies were registered, to making sure the church was spotless at the end of the event. And the church was indeed spotless -- I received two separate notes from PCCT leaders applauding our attention to detail and our respect of the facility. Thank you Pam and Pat.
The Nerfa principles were thrilled with the atmosphere and the way the entire event came off, some calling it the best one-day event yet held by any group. We tried things that were firsts for a one-day event, and they commented often that the facility was perfect for this type of event. The presentation video was a big success, the initial concept of which was Wendy's idea. Frankly, this is a workshop that we could offer at other similar events and with our own people. Most performers don't have a way to create video of their own performance.
Another one-day?
The one-day event was successful in every measure. I hope I can get to the Board meeting to join in the discussion, as it should be Pam and Pat's opinion that gets the most weight about doing another one. Both Nerfa and the Church have suggested making it annual. I will withhold comment on a repeat until hearing the opinions of the Board as there are legitimate business concerns, and of Pat and Pam.
Respectfully,
....Mike Del Vecchio
