Stayaway Subcommittee
Motion to Create Streaming Committee as a Standing Committee of The Folk Project
Background:
Since March 20, 2020 (in response to the pandemic), the Stayaway subcommittee has streamed over 200 events, including 110 concerts every Tuesday and Friday that have raised about $100,000 for artists. Along the way, the Folk Project has gained national recognition from performers, agents, audiences, and organizations like the Folk Alliance, where we stand out as one of the top programs nationally in streaming folk and acoustic music.
Industry professionals and many venues have already recognized that live-streaming will continue to be an integral part of presenting folk music even as the pandemic subsides. We see that with our own workshops and concerts, where active participants and many former Projectiles from all over the country (and internationally) attend, Folk Project streaming is here to stay.
So I will move that the Stayaway Subcommittee separate from under the Special Events Committee and become a full committee on its own called the Streaming Committee.
Like Publicity, Sound Reinforcement, and Newsletter, it needs to be a separate committee that uses its specialized knowledge and experience to support the entire Folk Project, its events, and its committees. We’re already working with Special Events and the Open Stage Committee on streaming house concerts and open stages when the board permits live audiences.
I am willing to serve as chair and look forward to continuing to work with the team of volunteers that have made the live-streaming of Folk Project concerts and workshops such a success.
