Scott Ferguson, Board President
January 30, 2010
Dear Scooter, and Folk Project Board,
I am grateful to you and the Board of The Folk Project for the warm invitation I received to join your ranks. However, I have seen in the past few weeks that I made a premature, albeit well-intentioned, decision to become a board member at this time of transition in my life. This month, I have been truly fortunate to find work in this difficult economy, after nine months of searching. And things being what they are, I have found not one, but two sources of income, as employers don’t extend salaries or benefits packages in the direction of their new hires, as they did a couple of years ago. So this next phase of my journey will have me integrating two new positions into my life, and I feel that having both a day and an evening/weekend job will prevent me from having time to attend board meetings and offer additional help as expected.
I am therefore notifying you that I need to step out of the role of board member, even before I’ve begun. I don’t know how this will affect the board’s proceedings, if at all, and I hope it causes a minimum of disturbance. I hope you will all accept my apologies for this withdrawal and can appreciate the change of circumstances, which has been the cause.
I look forward to continuing as an enthusiastic audience member, and will continue to tell new people about the work of the Folk Project every chance I get as I’ve been doing. My extended job search helped me to discover new ways of networking. Down the line, it would be my pleasure to brainstorm with the publicity committee in an unofficial capacity.
All the best to you in your good work,
Alison Mazie
