Subject: Motion for this Tuesday's board meeting:
Board,
I will be making a motion to lend some no-cost support at Tuesday’s board meeting.
Background:
Members of the former Folk Music Society of Northern New Jersey are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of their honored June Days festival with a commemorative concert on Saturday, June 8, 2019 in Bloomingdale, NJ.
The FMS and the Project have mutual roots the extend back to the ‘70s. Many of the Project’s original members belonged to FMS and attended June Days. Some of us were volunteers and on the boards of both organizations. I’m told our original constitution was based on theirs. For many years an official liaison who sat on both boards. The Project bought them their last sound system before the disbanded. The bonds are strong.
The Event:
The concert will feature a reunion of The Bottle Hill Band, a legendary progressive bluegrass band that included such folk luminaries as Walt Michaels, Jim Albertson, Barry Mitterhoff, and Lew London. Twelve of the 15 members from across the U.S. will attend. Project members Mike Agranoff, Henry Nerenberg and I will be invited to perform. The possibility of surprise guests from June Days past is real and exciting.
The event will run from 4pm to 9pm in Bloomingdale, NJ, 20 minutes north of the intersection of Routes 80 and 287.
There will be 200 seats available. They may add lawn seats. It will cost $40. It will most likely sell out.
The Motion:
The Folk Project will lend our ticketing expertise and on-line platform to facilitate ticket on-line sales for the June Days 50th Anniversary Concert.
The Details:
Henry Nerenberg and I are on the committee running and overseeing the event.
This will be no cost to the Folk Project.
Chris Reimer, Gary Pratt and I have agreed to handle the tasks.
We’ll be setting up an event page in our Constant Contact platform, collecting the money, and distributing the money minus our costs.
The event will be covered by insurance.
We will publish the link in May’s Folk Project newsletter to give our members notice and the opportunity to attend.
In summary:
Old friends and Project members are celebrating an historic New Jersey folk festival.
Let’s support them.
Thanks,
Mark
