SWINGIN' TERN

The Swingin' Tern Committee Report for September 3:

Two good dances in August. Despite the summer, attendance was good and net proceeds were positive by $40. Not included in this figure are expenditures of $132 (printing and mailing of flyers; committee meeting refreshments). August 3 featured Barbara Goldstein and Hog Wild; August 17 Tavi Merrill and Unbowed. Good, experienced callers and bands that appear regularly at Swingin' Tern because of their popularity with the dancers.

On the publicity front, Nancy Kelner arranged an interview with the Daily Record. The article was printed on August 16 and was well received, and attendance at the next day's dance was higher than normal for a third-Saturday dance, even more for a summer dance.

Next is the September 7 techno contra starring Phase X and Dan Black, as arranged by Suzanne and organized by Doug and Xander. Black lights and glowsticks will be present. Techno contras have been a big draw to the younger crowd as well as to folks who claim to have a Jefferson Airplane album in the closet.
