Folk Project board members,

Since last Tuesday's board meeting, there have been at least 71 messages sent regarding the name change issue.

It is readily apparent to me (and most likely, others) that a) despite the vote at the board meeting, this issue is not settled and b) email is not an efficient way to deal with contentious issues.

I propose the following:

1. Discussion about the name change on email be tabled until the next board meeting.

2. No article about the name change be published in the March newsletter.

3. An ad hoc committee be appointed by the President to further consider the name change with a mandate to present a recommendation for the name change to the board at the April board meeting.

4. Keep MUF in the loop regarding this issue.

Subject: It's time to make the name change discussion official

Current and Former Board Members,

I want to thank Gary for setting this out so clearly. We will continue the name change discussion along the lines that he has suggested and stop this continuous flow of email. It is clear that the vote at the Board meeting did not really close the question in our minds, so we need to take another look.

• 1. 1. I ask that no formal announcement be published in the April newsletter. The new name should be settled and the change announced in time for the May newsletter deadline.

     2. I will appoint an ad hoc committee chair to pick a new name and handle publicity related to the name change. As Minstrel chair, Michael's approval of the new name will be paramount.

     3. I or the ad hoc committee chair will keep MUF informed of our progress.

     4. As President, I am gavelling the full board email discussion closed. Please respect your fellow board members and let this be handled in a more formal manner. All name suggestions and opinions will be directed from now on to the ad hoc committee chair once he/she is chosen. I hope to make the announcement within a day or so.
