HSNOI

Hurray! We've got a new volunteer, Doreen, who took the Cablevision training. Then recently she joined the FP and contacted us offering to volunteer, starting this month. We have been hard-pressed over the last couple of months to field a full volunteer crew.

We taped 4 good shows in October:

604) 10/6/14 6:45 Two-Thirds Goat - champion of metrobilly music in NYC, performed at SXSW 2013 & 2014; official artists at CMJ 2013. Last year, one of the top 10 bands out of over 3,500 in competition to perform in The Outlaw Roadshow at SXSW 2013; melding of alt-country, bluesy bluegrass and classic rock echo the core members' diverse roots: Annalyse descended directly from the infamous McCoys of Eastern Kentucky, and Ryan deeply rooted in the beach culture of southern New Jersey http://twothirdsgoat.wix.com/twothirdsgoat

605) 10/6/14 8:00 Ron Renninger - superb picking & vocals woven w/ well-crafted, powerful songs (that draw on wealth of experience from fascinating, well-traveled life); wide range of genres www.RonRenninger.com

606) Oct 16 – 6:45 Ted Yoder - initially made a name for himself as the 2010 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion, but it was his tendency to take a popular or traditional song and 'Yoderize' it with his spectacularly unique use of the Hammered Dulcimer that really brought him to acclaim. When people hear a song they recognize, but with a sound they've never experienced, they stop and take notice. http://www.tedyoder.com

607) Oct 16 – 8:00 Yankee Rebels – together since the 1960's. Over the years they have won eight first prizes at Bluegrass Contests. The three founding members, Art Dekhayser on guitar, Les Bayer on banjo and Dave Bressler on mandolin are joined by Mark Farrell on fiddle and Allen Cohen on upright bass to recreate past triumphs and forge ahead with traditional style Bluegrass that sounds at home in the 21st century. http://yankeerebelsbluegrass.webs.com

Upcoming:

608) 11/6/14 6:45 Juggernaut String Band - runs on a high octane blend of classic rock, bluegrass and Mardi Gras party tunes seasoned with Pete's originals; Uncle Pete Tawny rocks the banjo and fiddle, joined by Cat Burbage on world drum kit, rubboard, spoons and vocals, (sometimes all at once), and Dave the Rave Larrison on bass. http://juggernautstringband.com

609) 11/6/14 8:00 Piedmont Bluz - Valerie Turner (guitar, vocals) & Ben Turner (percussion, harmonica); "Just when people think the old country blues of the Mid-Atlantic has faded away, along come the wonderful husband and wife duo of Valerie and Ben Turner who are the heirs to the Piedmont blues tradition. They play the truehearted, authentic country blues with love." - Frank Matheis, Publisher: www.thecountryblues.com, Writer: Living Blues http://www.piedmontbluz.com

610) 12/1/14 Mulebone - Highwire Act Roots Blues Duo: Hugh Pool plays guitars, harmonica, boot board and sings, all with a mouth full of whiskey and a giant heart. John Ragusa on conch shell, Jews harp, cornet, all manner of flutes, tin whistle, and chimes in on the harmony vocals; http://www.mulebonemusic.com

611) 12/1/14 Robinson Treacher - Chameleon-like in his approach to his songwriting, he refuses to be pigeonholed into one particular genre. Believing that each song is forged from its own unique terrain, he takes great pains in choosing the vehicle by which passengers might best weather the bumps, potholes, and blind curves found between the first note and the last. Admittedly susceptible to the affectations of the senses himself, he asks his audience to participate emotionally as well as physically in a “whole self” conceptual challenge, a 360 degree soul search comprised of the most joyous elation to the bitterest of pains. http://robinsontreacher.com

612) 1/6/15 Jay Johnston w/Vern Warta - born and raised in Memphis, TN, where he learned to love blues and old country songs. Jay is a singer/songwriter who plays guitar and harmonica. He appears in New York City and throughout New Jersey, playing solo gigs, duets w/guitar player extraordinaire, Vern Warta, or with his band, The Honky-Tonk Scoundrels. He has performed numerous times on The Heartland’s Hayride live radio show, Melanie Thiel's Morning Cup of Coffee, Homegrown Radio's First Friday series, and Princeton's Cafe Improv. https://www.facebook.com/magnoliamanjay

614) 1/6/15 8:00 Gathering Time – (Hillary Foxsong, Stuart Markus & Gerry McKeveny)"... has perfected two separate but related art forms: three part harmony and having a ball on stage! When they harmonize, some sort of fundamental, cosmic concordance occurs that makes you very happy that you have ears.” Bob McKillop, MaineFolkMusic.com http://www.gathering-time.com
