The Swingin' Tern Committee Report for August 2:
Our normal contra dance on July 16 and the Tern Swings event on July 30 were well attended and financially successful.
Our July 16 dance featured the band Last Exit, and we had a smorgasbord of experienced and up-and-coming callers, all organized by Bob Isaacs. Attendance was 87. Last Exit's followers, dancers from areas without summer dancing and the charge-free calling combined to give us a cash-flow surplus $328.
Our July 30 Tern Swings event starred Jay Wilensky and Reeds, Rhythm & All That Brass. We had attendance of 99, not counting 3 people who paid but didn't come. The success was due to the band's popularity, the work of the FP publicity committee and the promotion work of Swingin' Tern's Xander Kastan, who is active in NJ swing dance circles. The high attendance and higher charge--double usual at the door--gave us a cash-flow surplus of $720.
We are planning to have special dances and workshops, and we will inform you of progress.
