Well the big news was yesterday’s CDC’s recommendation that all attendees of indoor gatherings, including those who have been vaccinated, wear masks. How would this affect our plans to reopen the Troubadour in September? I consulted with Volunteer Chair Jean Scully. The decision we reached was to continue with our plans as they stood, but carefully monitor the situation and make changes as dictated by the rapidly changing conditions. Our reasoning was based upon the fact that the CDC‘s recommendation was based upon indoor gatherings of the general public, and not of attendees pre-screened for proof of vaccination, as we are planning to do. Possible procedural changes we might consider would range from recommending attendees wear masks, to requiring attendees wear masks, to postponing the opening until October or beyond. Our admissions desk volunteers will be masked, and the attendees will be given wrist bands to wear as proof their vax cards have been checked. (I have purchased 1,000 such wrist bands, and they will be available for other venues to use.) Other measures of safety we are planning are opening the side doors of the Meeting Room, and perhaps to place fans in those doorways. (Fan noise would have to be considered.) We will consider possible messages to include on the Troubadour web page, and on the confirmation emails of advance ticket purchase.
Other than that, the reopening plans continue. John Lamb and I have spent many many many many many hours in smoothing out the details of inputting Troubadour shows into the Folk Project’s calendar. John Mahon will be setting up training sessions for sound and video techs. Many thanks to Gary Pratt for handling the processing of online donations to the headline acts, to Loretta Brooks for obtaining and uploading photos to the website, and to Amy Livingston for handling and processing the advance ticket sales.
