Swingin' Tern report for November and 2017:

November

On November 4, Swingin' Tern hosted a double dance--afternoon for experienced dancers and evening for all dancers. Mark Hillegonds called to Party of Three. On November 18, Ann Lutun and Bob Isaacs called to Fingerplay.

All these performers delighted the dancers and the dances were all successful financially. In addition, ST/FP was supported by generous

contributions from Lin Goetz. For November the result was +$370, excluding FP general overhead.

2017

For the last few years contra dancing has become less popular. This trend has been observed in the US, Canada and the UK, with a few notable exceptions.

Counter to trend, in recent months at Swingin' Tern the results have improved. In addition, Lin Goetz has made several generous contributions, and because of those contributions the official figures show Swingin' Tern only slightly negative for the year.

If insurance were allocated proportionately to revenues or ST were charged only what it would pay on the open market as a stand-alone entity, the result would have been slightly positive.

Starting April, Swingin' Tern is raising adult admission from $10 to $12. This is in line with what the nearest dances have done. For simplicity,

the student rate will continue at $5.

This is the last year Tom Banwell and Don Flaherty are serving as Swingin' Tern's sound volunteers. They have given decades of support to our dance. They have also both trained replacements. Tom and Don are regarded with great fondness by our dancers. We have encouraged them to attend future dances when they are able.
