Minstaff Report 1504
I. Boots on the Ground
A. We’re lucky that the Volunteers we do have are by and large conscientious
and hard working - we have a good crew of people.
B. I’d still like to find a way to “turn out the troops” with out multiple emails
from Amy Livingston trying to fill empty positions.
1. Minstrel Mash is one possibility. This would be a short email synopsis
sent out to the volunteers Saturday / Sunday re-capping the previous
Friday’s Minstrel concert. Sanctuary Concerts does this with their
volunteers, and it’s an effective way of encouraging inclusion, ownership,
and hopefully turn out. I’ve done one or two of these in the past, but not
with consistency.
2. The upgrade for the Kitchen volunteers continues, whereby we make sure
all clean up is completed by the end of the break, freeing up the Kitchen
staff to get back in and enjoy the entire second half of the evening.
3. Our Head Staff conundrum might be easing a bit. I’m in the process of
asking for a once every six or so weeks commitment from my six or so
trained Head Staff people. Once this is all in place, that nagging empty
spot on the Vol. list called Head Staff should be gone….
C. Training
1. I’m working on creating a training session for our Head Staff and Door
volunteers, sometime Spring or early Summer. I’d like to promote those
two positions and build a deeper bench of experienced, available people,
and this type meeting could be part of getting us there.
2. I myself have been trying to spread myself around to all the different vol
jobs - Kitchen, Set Up/Tear Down, MC, and not just the ones I’m
comfortable with - Head Staff and Sound Assistant. It makes sense if
I’m going to effectively manage these jobs that I have some first hand
experience with them.
D. New Volunteers
1. If any of you folks on the Board of Directors would like to try out a
volunteer position, or know of someone who might like to do that, please
let me know, and I’ll connect with them and get them set up….
2. We do have our usual slow dribble of new faces that appear, but
retention is the key…
