Swingin' Tern Annual Report -- 2018
OUR VOLUNTEERS
We have a number of great volunteers. Doug Heacock does publicity, including Facebook; designs and mails our flyers; gives booking advice; and hosts the annual holiday party. Virginia Nordberg is our volunteer coordinator, and she also volunteers often. Andrew Warner and Sacha Forgoston set up the sound at nearly all of our dances, and as you know, live music plays an essential role at our dances. Xander Kastan is our booker, and he also frequently volunteers at the dance.
Roxanne Memmelo, Gary Szelc, Karen Justin, Jon Justin, Sandy DeSmedt and George Rogers volunteer often. All these folks are the core volunteers at the actual dances. We also have many other valuable volunteers.
THIS YEAR'S DANCES
Swingin' Tern hosted dances on the first and third Saturdays of every month. Included were three double dances, when outstanding regional bands and callers performed.
There were three sponsored dances, in which a dancer paid all dance expenses and contributions to Swingin' Tern/the Folk Project were made.
Last December we had our holiday dance (after-party at Doug and Brian's) and a New Year's dance, and this month we'll have another holiday dance and NYE dance.
FINANCIAL RESULTS
Overall we have had a down year, which was substantially ameliorated by many contributions -- both occasional large ones and frequent smaller ones.
NOVEMBER REPORT
On November 3, Diane Hartzell called to Dr. Twamley's Audio Snakes and on November 17, Tom Amesse called to Blue Jersey.
The holiday dance on December 15 will end half an hour early (10:30) to make it easier for people to get to Doug and Brian's earlier. Come to the dance and after-party!
