New Jersey Uke Fest - Report to the Board - 2018, April
New Jersey Uke Fest 2018
Dates: Friday August 24 thru Sunday August 26, 2017
Location: Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey and the Morristown Green
The 2018 “Fools For Ukes” ticket sale, where we offered 20 tickets to the full fest, happened this past weekend. I can’t say that the sale went off without a hitch. In fact we had a major hitch. It turns out, that when I copied the event in Constant Contact from the 2017 event I accidentally had not not updated a field. This meant that PayPal did not know what to do with the sales and so was instead informing registrants that their transactions could not go thru.
We found this out within an hour of the box office being open. Unfortunately, since it was a weekend we could not contact Constant Contact til Monday. So we posted to the website and FaceBook that we had a problem and were working on it and that everyone who tried to register would get a ticket once we found the problem. We also decided to extend the sales event by 24 hours due to
the mixup. By 9pm on 4/2 with the help of Lori F. and the Constant Contact help desk we got everybody sorted out. The sale is now over and the NJUF has 12 confirmed attendees. (This is a 25% increase in Fools for Ukes ticket sales over 2017.)
I am in negotiations with our final performer. This year there will be 4 performers and 4 to 5 instructors.
The Morristown Inn who has been our “preferred hotel” for the past 2 years, (also where we house some of our performers) was recently sold. As a result, the new owners have increased the prices that they offered us (including the discount that I get for performers).
This year I will need double the number of performer hotel room nights. This will cause me to exceed the performer budget by several hundred dollars.
We hope to announce the performers by the end of April, pending the return of all performer contracts.Early Bird ticket sales start June 1.
The Jim Boggia, sweepstakes event increased the NJUF’s FaceBook Group by 25%. The sweepstakes winner enjoyed the concert and is now a Jim Boggia fan.
