The Swingin' Tern Committee Report for November 13:
We've had three dances since the last board meeting, and in total they had a cash flow positive of $85 (excluding rent).
The last of these was the Harvest Hoot. We were fortunate that our dance hall and performers were available; the dance was held on the Saturday after Sandy hit. Ordinarily the Hoot is one of our most successful dances financially. While this year we were in the red by $20 (plus rent), the Hoot was successful in another way: we danced for hours to a great band (Termites' Delight) and caller (Peter Styx) after days without power. All were grateful that the performers scrambled to get the gas they needed (this meant waiting in gas lines for hours so that from various locations they'd be able to get to the dance).
The Hoot is the first of a series of big dances we are holding. Next Saturday we are having our first Techno Contra, with black lights and glow sticks. So far we have seen ten times the usual interest expressed on Facebook. In December we have our holiday party dance and New Year's Eve dance. In January comes our anniversary dance. We expect all these to be successful both for our dancers and for us financially.
