Dear Boardies,
The 2014 Spring Getaway was successful financially, spiritually, musically, and organizationally.
Finances:
We sold out, including 12 Saturday passes. We think we profited $500. Bill will determine the exact amount.
Spiritually:
Surveys rated the overall Getaway 47 out of 50.
Particularly gratifying were the old-timer responses.
The 32 respondents who said they attended 16 festivals or more rated:
The overall Getaway 48 out of 50
The sense of community 48 out of 50
The workshops 46 out of 50
First timers were in abundance - 25!
The 14 survey respondents who were attending their first Getaway/festival rated:
The overall Getaway 46 out of 50
The sense of community 46 out of 50.
The workshops 45 out of 50.
Special donations have enabled work scholarships that support our community and aid individual members in untold and very important ways. Their gratitude was enormous and lives were touched beautifully.
Musically:
All the professional acts averaged over "very good” (i.e., over 40 out of 50).
Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo rated 48 out of 50.
MSG - The Blues Trio rated 46 out of 50.
Most guests said the musical highlight of the weekend
was Grover and MSG joining Frank & Vinny for Saturday night’s finale.
Organizationally:
The chairs, the committee and the volunteers continue to improve their performance, operate with better efficiency, and enjoy running and participating in The Getaway.
Our publicity and outreach were stronger and more successful. We will try to expand some of our successful efforts to include other Project venues the rest of the year.
The Committee is devoted to the spirit and mission of this four-decade tradition. It has used many new tools to reinvigorate our weekend tradition.
Of note:
The highest-rated and highest-praised performance and workshops were Frank & Vinny's, a jazz duo that was hired for one day only.
Concert seating, dinner and Vocalotto setups will be improved next time.
We are looking forward to a great Fall Getaway. It will be the best three-day music party ever.
Yours in song,
Mark & Robin Schaffer
Getaway Chaircouple
