Sound Reinforcement Committee Report – October 2021
We successfully provided sound reinforcement for all the Folk Project performances held in MUUF in October. We are still waiting for MUUF to start the renovation of the technical equipment in the main hall.
We had a discussion with the MUUF’s technical staff as to the necessity of upgrading any of the audio equipment. Based on this discussion we concluded that there was no need to replace any of the main components of the installed audio equipment. Any replacement contemplated to give a greater microphone count would be expensive, require additional tech training, and be used by the FP very infrequently.
Completing this discussion allowed MUUF to finalize their order list for the equipment for the renovation. Although, a firm timetable for this work has not yet been set, I expect it to begin in 2 to 4 weeks.
The video broadcasting of the Troubadour shows continues without incident. We do get a few isolated comments from the broadcast audience members describing broadcast defects such as freezing or jumping screens. This has been isolated to a situation local to the broadcast recipient.
We are looking to start training sound volunteers in all the procedures we currently use with the audio and video. Large scale training must wait until the renovation is complete so the training will be for the equipment as it is newly reconfigured. We are starting to schedule on off training sessions for a few key individuals with prior live sound audio experience who have expressed in volunteering for FP sound duties.
