Newsletter Committee Report 2014-06
Things are proceeding apace with the usual help from Pat Brangs, Nancy Kelner, Liz Pagan, Bill Henderson, Paul Fischer, and Eddie Roffman. Pat had 330 copies of the newsletter printed, with 190 issues mailed out and the rest distributed to the usual venues and people.
As my workflow becomes more efficient, the production of the newsletter is taking less time. However, as the timeline shrinks, one item is beginning to stick out as an important problem that needs to be fixed. This is where the rest of the board comes in, because I need your help.
What is the problem? name misspellings and other erroneous information. Incorrect names are appearing in submitted articles which, if not caught, makes the Folk Project look more amateurish than we would like and is a disservice to the people whose names are incorrectly spelled.
Here is a list of some recent misspelled names:
Deni Bonet
Oskar Schindler
Lois DeRitter
Christine DeLeon
Mark Schaffer (double award because both his names were misspelled in the same article)
Judy Hagan
Deb O'Hanlon
Miriam Libove
Sandie Reilly
Allan Kugel
Thankfully, the volunteer proofreaders—Pat Brangs, Nancy Kelner, and Liz Pagan—caught these errors and they were fixed before final publication, but I think there are too many such errors and there may have been others that were not caught. I would like to ask everyone who submits articles for the newsletter to take a moment to check the names in their articles for accuracy. In addition, phone numbers, addresses, and directions should also be carefully checked. Errors in these categories have gotten through in previous issues. Such information is much harder to proofread. I depend on you submitting accurate information in these areas.
If you can spend an extra minute or two checking the names and other data in your articles before sending them to me, it would make my workload easier and would improve the newsletter.
Thanks,
George Otto
