Subject: Treasurer's Report
Greetings, folks -
So here I am, back in the Treasurer's Chair. Did you miss me?
As of January 31, we have $5,590 in Checking, $18,650 in the Money Market and $129,230 in the Vanguard account. Those are the balances after covering the cost of the new HSNOI hardware. Technically our "current assets" also include another $2,500 that's a deposit for the Spring Getaway. That's carried as an asset, since if the Getaway were canceled for some reason, we'd get the money back.
It's always interesting to see a single month in isolation, so I will provide some additional commentary. In the FP General column we have Dues income and a little Interest, as well as odds and ends of expenses. The Fees number includes our Post Office Box, some Bank Fees, and PayPal fees associated with Dues. Postage and Shipping is mostly newsletter, but there's some Treasurer postage in there too. The $443 in Insurance is the new Executive Protection policy, which we're going to carry at the Folk Project level. That is, it will not be charged back to the venues.
Concerts is looking very strong because of advance sales on events that will be held over the next month or two. This is also the first month for Open Stage to have its own column, and thanks to its Donations income, it's comfortably in the black.
Performer 1099s all went out ahead of schedule, and this year I didn't need to chase down any information at the last minute. Let's hear it for crisp efficiency! As Andy Koenig mentioned in a separate memo, he's going to be handing over the administration of the Vanguard account to the Treasurer. Here's a special shout out for his work in setting that up and guiding our fiscal course for so many years.
Finally, if you have expenses from 2017, please get them submitted by February 15, so I can close the books on last year and turn things over to Bill Dodds, for tax prep. Bill also deserves an attaboy for doing our taxes for free for the past two years. One of the less visible volunteers whose work make things go so smoothly.
If you have questions I will try to answer them. Also, if anyone is interested in getting under the hood with QuickBooks, I can do some training as the year advances. I did that three times (I think) in 2016, so I already have the course outlined. I'd likely want to do it with Skype, since that lets me share a screen at no cost. That would be a pre-requisite for QuickBooks training this year.
See you Tuesday.
Regards,
Chris
