ANNUAL REPORT
This will be a very short report for a very short season. The Troubadour had been doing very nicely, along with most of the world until COVID-19 shut down all live performance entertainment in the country. In the 9 shows we presented from December 1, 2019 through March 6, 2020, were were averaging 88.8 paid (112.2 total) attendees per show, at an average profit of $81.65 per show. After that…zip! There were some false starts and a possible re-opening schedule after that, but when we realized that this was going to be for the long haul, we pulled up the covers over our heads and went into hibernation.
In the early fall we had considered the possibility of presenting live unattended video concerts from our facilities at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship. We found a suitable replacement service for the defunct Concert Window, and investigated how to handle the streaming performance rights through ASCAP and BMI. But in the end, I decided not to proceed with the program due to uncertainties as to whether we could attract enough artists willing to risk travel to our venue, or enough virtual attendees willing to pay for a ticket to cover our rent and artist fee costs. In hindsight, that was probably a wise decision, considering the likely travel restrictions imposed by the ever-expanding pandemic.
The Troubadour will continue to remain in hiatus until we can once again hold concerts without the need for social distancing. My best guess would be that might happen in summer or fall of 2021, but I have no firm data or information to support that guess. I am hoping that when we do resume, we will reinstate the live-streaming of those concerts, taking advantage of the research done on the subject this year.
