Hi Folkies!
As you can see from the attached PDF, reminding folks to renew has had some effect. We're now back up to 353 memberships, representing 533 folks. That's the highest number since I started keeping stats.
This is mostly a result of two e-blasts. One to every membership that expired in 2010 and one to every membership that expired in 2008 and 2009.
The 2010 expiration list showed a better return (over 20 renewals) than the 2008-2009 list (about 6 or 7).
Soooo...
I'd like to discuss and ask the Bored's opinion on the idea of offering a "two-years-for-the-price-of-one" deal to former members who have been lapsed for over a year, on the condition that they subscribe to the E-newsletter rather than the paper Newsletter.
The logic is that the marginal cost of an e-NL subscription is zero. So any renewals at all are a plus for us.
I'm aware that this could be considered unfair to the Luddites among us. The Folk Project has its share, and some of them are regular volunteers. I'm not sure what to do about it, so I propose that as one topic of discussion.
In the context of the lower return for the longer lapses, I'm thinking of this as a way to generate a little zero-cost hoopla in hopes that it will entice a few more mice out of the woodwork.
