1 (10 oz) angel food cake
1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
1½ cups whole milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 can (21 oz) strawberry pie filling
1 container (8 oz) whipped topping, thawed
Fresh strawberries, sliced (optional, for garnish)
Prepare the Pudding Layer: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and whole milk until smooth. Add the heavy whipping cream and continue to whisk until the mixture thickens. Set aside.
Assemble the Dessert: Cut the angel food cake into 1-inch cubes. Place half of the cake cubes in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread half of the strawberry pie filling over the cake cubes. Then, layer half of the pudding mixture over the pie filling.
Repeat the Layers: Add the remaining cake cubes on top of the pudding layer. Spread the remaining strawberry pie filling over the cake cubes. Finally, spread the remaining pudding mixture over the pie filling.
Top with Whipped Topping: Spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the top of the pudding layer.
Chill: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
Serve: Before serving, garnish with sliced fresh strawberries if desired.
