A delightful dish that combines crispy chicken pieces with a sweet and tangy orange sauce, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a special occasion.
Full Recipe:
1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
½ cup cornstarch
¼ cup vegetable oil
½ cup orange juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
¼ cup sugar
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp garlic, minced
1 tsp ginger, minced
¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Coat the Chicken: Place the chicken pieces in a bowl and toss them with cornstarch until evenly coated.
Heat the Oil: In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
Fry the Chicken: Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 5–7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
Prepare the Sauce: In the same pan, combine the orange juice, sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
Combine Chicken and Sauce: Return the fried chicken to the pan and toss to coat the pieces evenly with the sauce.
Serve: Transfer the orange chicken to a serving dish and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve hot, ideally with steamed rice or sautéed vegetables.
