Full Recipe:
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork
1 cup breadcrumbs
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup marinara sauce
1 large egg
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the breadcrumb mixture: In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to absorb the milk.
Sauté the aromatics: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Mix the meatloaf: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumb mixture, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, sautéed onion and garlic, and the egg. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Shape the meatloaf: Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish or a lined baking sheet. Shape it into a loaf form, ensuring it's evenly distributed.
Add marinara sauce: Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
Bake: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
Rest and serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with additional marinara sauce if desired.
