This comforting dish features tender chicken breasts enveloped in a creamy, cheesy sauce, making it a family favorite for weeknight dinners. The combination of sour cream, garlic, and cheese creates a rich and flavorful topping that keeps the chicken moist and delicious.
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1½ cups sour cream
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheese blend)
1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter
Optional garnish: chopped parsley or green onions
Preheat and Prep
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
Make the Creamy Topping
In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well blended.
Assemble the Dish
Place the chicken breasts in the prepared baking dish. Spread the sour cream mixture evenly over the top of each chicken breast.
Add Cheese
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the sour cream layer. For added flavor, you can mix some cheese into the sour cream mixture before spreading it.
Bake
Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions, if desired, and serve warm.
