For the Brownie Batter:
¾ cup (1½ sticks) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup packed brown sugar
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
¾ cup all purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
For the Banana Bread Batter:
1 cup overripe mashed bananas (about 2 medium bananas)
½ teaspoon baking powder
For the Brownie Batter:
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips (for topping)
Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
Prepare Brownie Base: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Stir in the flour and salt until just combined.
Prepare Banana Bread Batter: In a separate bowl, mash the bananas and sprinkle the baking powder over them. Stir to combine. Add half of the brownie batter to the banana mixture and mix until well combined.
Prepare Brownie Batter: To the remaining brownie batter, add the cocoa powder and ¾ cup of chocolate chips. Mix until smooth.
Assemble the Brownies: Spoon half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Pour the banana bread batter over the brownie layer.
