Belia Darzu was a female Shi'ido who reigned as Dark Lord of the Sith during the final quarter of the New Sith War. A natural shapeshifter, Darzu usually appears as a tall human woman with short brown hair. In 1250 BBY, she led the revived Sith Empire at the beginning of the period known as the Sictis War. An accomplished Sith alchemist, Lord Darzu researched an obscure Force technique known as mechu-deru, which led her to engineer a virus capable of transforming its victims into humans. mutant machines—technological beings.

At some point before the end of 1230 BBY, Darzu built a secret stronghold on the Deep Core world of Tython. At another time before the end of this day, Shi'ido also created a set of personal battle armor, as well as the Sith holocron; Darzu's Holocron—still inside her fortress's underground sanctum—would eventually contain her accumulated knowledge of mechu-deru and Sith alchemy, along with her philosophical views her knowledge of the Force and detailed instructions on creating the holocron.Harnessing the dark side energy spread throughout the planet Tython, Lord Darzu used his fortress to research the creation of organic-mechanical hybrids known as techno beasts. In pursuit of this goal, she studied the anatomy of several different species, documenting her work through numerous notes and sketches. With his knowledge of Sith alchemy and mechu-deru, Darzu created the nanogene spore, a techno-virus capable of growing metallic tumors on the victim's body. Using a new spell called mechu-deru vitae, she used nanogene spores to transform living creatures into mutant Sithspawn—technological beasts. Using her stronghold to house the technobeasts, Darzu organized the creatures into an army known as the Metanecrons, which formed the front line of her forces against the Republic and the Jedi during the Sictis War. Bound by Darzu's will, technobeasts are capable of infecting other creatures with viruses, assimilating enemies conquered by the Dark Lord into her legions of Sithspawn robots. During Darzu's reign, the technobeasts were considered the defining horrors of the Sictis War. By 1230 BBY, an alliance that had been forged between Lord Darzu and the Order of Mecrosa—a secret group of assassins with previous ties to the Sith—had fallen apart. Mecrosa sought revenge on Darzu for an unwanted invasion of the Tapani region, their territory. The Dark Lord also faced betrayal from her own Sith followers, who somehow conspired to end her life. Mecrosa completed this plot - along with their revenge - by poisoning Darzu to death on the planet Tython.
