In the Galactic Empire, Moff was a governmental position held by the governors of every sector of the galaxy. Created under the rule of Emperor Palpatine in 14 BBY, he intended to create a systematic ranking, in which the Moffs were a rank of power and intellect, gathering assets and information for the Empire. There were a total of 20 Moffs, which all assembled the Council of Moffs. Accompanying the Moffs in the same year, Emperor Palpatine created the senior rank of  Grand Moff, most notably known for this position was Grand Moff Tarkin.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The year 14  BBY was an important time across the galaxy. Along with the creation of the rank Moff and Grand Moff, many events were taking place within the Empire. Darth Vader was starting to create his fortress on Mustafar and many battles had been taking place across the galaxy. Grand Moff Tarkin’s rank was above that of Darth Vader, showing the power of the Moffs.

With 20 Moffs in the Empire, these ranking members reported to the Imperial Ruling Council, a governing body that consisted of the Emperor’s most valuable advisors and diplomats. The most well-known Moffs and Grand Moffs within the Empire were Grand Moff Tarkin, Grand Moff Ravik, Moff Giddeon, and Moff Panaka. Even though a Moff could be assigned by the Emperor himself, Grand Moffs had the final word on the matter, and could override any decisions that were configured by a Moff.
