Article Theme/Topic: Darth Cognus
General Information Body Paragraph:
A female Iktotchi assassin known as The Huntress operated in the years after the New Sith Wars concluded. The Huntress had a flawless track record and was hired by Lucia, a bodyguard for the planet Doan's royal dynasty. The Huntress was hired by Princess Serra, the person in command of the guards, to find Darth Bane, the only living Dark Lord of the Sith from the war that had taken place twenty years earlier, after she successfully fulfilled her contract with Lucia.
The Huntress, as she was called, was a Force-sensitive female Iktotchi who, like all members of her species, possessed a natural talent with precognition and telepathy. Her abilities far exceeded those of her kinsmen, and with time she learned to focus and control her visions with great precision. Occasionally, she was able to perceive possible futures and exert minimal influence over them. The dark side also flowed strongly through the Huntress, and with it she was able to hamper the powers and connections of Force-users within close proximity to her. She made use of her talents in a career as an assassin in the years that followed the end of the New Sith Wars. For five years she indulged herself, during which time she cultivated a flawless track record and earned a reputation for exemplary mission success.
History/Background Body Paragraph:
The rise of Cognus:
The Huntress planned the Stalker's path toward the Inner Rim, knowing that Princess Serra would flee to Ambria. Traveling along, she spoke with Darth Bane about the nature of her Force visions and how they had guided her to his residence on Ciutric IV. When asked if her visions were accurate, the Huntress claimed that her intuition was usually correct and that she expected Serra to eventually return to the desert world. She was right to assume that the Stalker would land close to Caleb's old camp, and when it did, an unfazed Serra came out of the hut to face the Dark Lord. Serra tried to talk the Huntress out of her confirmation of the evil side during their conversation, but she completely rejected him. Darth Bane gave the Iktotchi permission to kill Serra, whose body she buried close by after she concluded the Princess would not be useful to the Sith.
The Huntress and the Dark Lord talked about the sacrifices the former would need to make in order to fully embrace Sith culture that evening. She had no friends or relatives to leave behind, nor did material belongings matter to her; all she wanted was an even better life than the one she had been living. Darth Bane, then, gave her the idea to rename herself as a representation of her Sith rebirth. She decided on the name "Cognus," which attests to her penchant for divination. The Dark Lord, pleased with her choice, gave her the name "Darth" but cautioned her that official training would not start until the issue involving his current Sith apprentice was settled. He asked if Cognus's visions had indicated how his fight with the blond lady had turned out, but the Iktotchi claimed that what she had seen of their encounter had been ambiguous; in some cases, she had seen him come out on top, while in others, the blond woman had prevailed. Given that Cognus's trainee had now attained equal status, Bane guessed that the visions were hazy. He left Cognus to mull over his remarks before going to call his pupil for a last confrontation. She had a sneaking suspicion that the blond woman would show up with a sizable contingent to secure her win, but Bane disapproved and provided her with a synopsis of his Rule of Two doctrine. She realized what was going on, and she promised herself not to become involved when the blonde showed up.
Shortly after, Bane's trainee materialized, and upon alighting from her shuttle, she was suspicious of Darth Cognus, whose non-participation in the impending conflict Bane assured. Cognus, who didn't really care for either, expressed her wish to study under a real Sith Master and promised to help the newcomer if she turned out to be the more capable of the two. Cognus watched as the battle immediately broke out, the opponents' weapons moving quicker than her eyes could track. She turned aside as suddenly a brilliant crimson glare appeared, and it seemed to her that Zannah had triumphed. Cognus felt a tremendous outpouring of energy, and he realized that Darth Bane's soul had somehow broken free from his body and was attempting to take up residence in the blonde. Glancing back, she saw that Darth Bane had been turned to a heap of ashes, while the blonde, despite her confusion, was still alive. When the woman began to recover, Cognus wondered if Bane had succeeded and so shouted his name.
Darth Zannah, the Dark Lord of the Sith, answered and informed the Iktotchi that she was now the Master and that Bane had vanished. Cognus introduced herself and told how Bane had encouraged her to take on a new name to hint at her Sith identity but had not yet gone into full detail about his governing Rule of Two. In addition to giving Cognus instructions to use Bane's lightsaber until she made her own, Darth Zannah pledged to finish training her. Then, her new Master stated, Cognus would face Zannah in a final, conclusive battle one day as the chosen heir to the Sith tradition, and only one of them would survive.
Additional Information Body Paragraph:
Powers and abilities
The Huntress had the innate telepathic and precognitive powers of her kind, but hers was far more powerful than the passing visions shared by most Iktotchi. Her visions, which frequently came to her in the shape of dreams or during her meditations, taught her early in life how to piece them together and control their course. When the Huntress focused hard enough, she could use the Force to look into the past of an object or person, as well as glimpse potential futures. She was able to discern the significance of her visions in most instances, but sometimes the futures she saw were so unpredictable that she was unable to make sense of them. Nevertheless, her abilities were useful to her in her career as an assassin; her enhanced extrasensory perceptions allowed her to consistently locate the target of her assignments. Upon discovering the Huntress's enigmatic abilities, Darth Bane conjectured that, with the right Sith instruction, she would possess the ability to perceive every potential future, get ready for unforeseen adjustments, and even manifest the ones that best fit her.
