They are used to protect fleets, attack enemies and fight battles in space. The best known examples are the X-Wing and TIE Fighter. Transport ships: Transport ships are used to carry cargo and passengers. They are often used by smugglers, merchants and explorers. The best known examples are the Millennium Falcon and the Ebon Hawk. Patrol Ships: Patrol ships are used to monitor and protect Empire and Republic territories. They are often used to detect enemy intrusions and patrol borders. The best known examples are the TIE patrol ships. Troop Carriers: Troopships are used to transport soldiers and equipment to the battlefield. The best known examples are the Republic and Empire troop transports. Support Ships: Support ships are used to provide supplies, repairs and medical care to damaged ships. The best-known examples are the Emergency Rescue Ships
